Welcome to the website of Europe, Migration and the New Politics of (In)security.

We are a research network based at the Universities of York, Sheffield and Leeds examining Europe’s ‘new’ politics of (in)security in the context of post- and contemporary-Brexit Britain. Through this network, the intersection of identity, migration and politics will be investigated holistically within the wider context of Brexit.

This network was created as a reaction to the Brexit referendum, which unveiled a series of widespread anxieties about crisis in the economy, the welfare state, social cohesion and immigration. As an unfolding contested political event, Brexit has destabilised established ideas of multiculturalism and solidarity, threatened the wellbeing of communities new and old, and reshaped identities across public, private, and digital spaces. Brexit Aftermaths looks to engage with these insecurities in novel and creative ways to generate knowledge and policy around the emergent challenges and opportunities that individuals, communities, and civil society groups face.

We are funded by the White Rose Collaboration Fund

Context
